Special day to highlight range of Post-16 choices
Life after Orchard School was laid out for students in Years 8-11 at a special post-16 options event in the school this month.
Students had the chance to meet the teams from our local colleges, 6th Form Centres and apprenticeship providers.
They were joined by several former Orchard students who have gone on to further success after GCSEs.
Among the organisations represented were SGS College, City of Bristol College, North Bristol Post 16 Centre, Colston’s School and many others.
The first part of the day was for Years 8 and 9 who had the chance to find out what options there would be for them. They were able to ask questions which might influence which subjects they choose for Years 10 and 11.
The second part of the day was for older students in Years 10 and 11, joined by their parents, and forms part of their careers guidance.
It was a chance for them to choose or consider Post 16 courses which might ultimately lead to university or a particular career.
For some, the many apprenticeship providers were able to demonstrate the increasingly popular option of work-based choices for Post-16.
Assistant head teacher Dan Pitt said: “It was a fantastic, buoyant atmosphere for both sessions and the students were highly engaged in the process.
“This will help them feel more confident about making these important choices.
“It was also inspiring for our students to speak to former students who have gone on to great success.”
