Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Information
Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Expedition Proposed Date
I am pleased to confirm we have optimistically booked the weekend of the expedition which forms a part of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. This will take place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July 2021 on the Mendip Hills; the expedition leader will be Mr Staynings.
At present, the Government guidance does not allow for an overnight camp, but we are hopeful this could change. If camping is not possible, the expedition will still take place and count towards the Award, but would require students to be collected on Saturday (to sleep at home) and returned to the site on Sunday morning. I will of course keep you updated on this and provide more clarity when I am able to.
At this point, could I ask that all participants start to think ahead about the right equipment and travelling to/from the expedition. Usually parents/carers drop children at the site and pick up, and it is often beneficial to share lifts, but Government guidance states that this is best avoided at present. If you think transportation may be an issue, please contact me. I will be in touch at a later date about equipment.
Could I please remind you that all participants must have completed their 3 sections on the e-Dofe website (https://edofe.org/) and all payments completed on ParentPay before they are able to attend the expedition. Once each section is completed, your assessor needs to complete an Assessor’s Report as either a paper copy or through the website at https://edofe.org/Assessor. Your assessor cannot be a family member and they will need your participant number, which can be found on the e-DofE website. Please encourage your son/daughter to speak to me if you are having trouble logging in.
I have also included some information on the next page of this email regarding suitable footwear for the expedition. Should you need any financial support with the purchasing of equipment, please let me know.
Finally, I offer my congratulations to all students who have already completed sections!
