Dear parents and carers
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. The students have had a fantastic term 5 overall, and thank you for all your support, as always, in helping them get back into school routines.
Dates for Term One 2021-22
I want to share with you dates for next academic year.
- Monday 23 – Friday 27 August, 9.30 – 2pm each day: Summer School for Year 6s who are going to be joining us in Year 7. This is a free summer school – all activities, snacks, lunch are free and children will have a chance to get to know the school, some staff, make new friends, find their way around and essentially get a head start on transition. Further information will be going directly to parents/carers of current Year 6s.
- Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd September: INSET days for staff (no school for students)
- Monday 6th September: Year 7 and Year 11 students only in school
- Tuesday 7th September: All year groups back in
- Half term: Monday 25th – Friday 29th October
The full calendar will be on the website and I will share it with you shortly.
Thank you for the very positive feedback on our new website. Please do continue to let us know how it’s working for you. We want to get this website right for you, our parents/carers, so it is the most useful resource it can be. Just email firstname.lastname@example.org if there is anything you are struggling to find or feel is missing.

We have had a few questions recently about the school jumper. In 2008 a special school jumper was created with a logo and stripes on the V neck in the House colours. Four years ago, we decided not to continue with this jumper, as it felt an additional expense, with embroidered logo, that was not needed. Students wear shirts and blazers to school – and this is the essential uniform all through the year.
In the winter in cold weather, if an extra jumper is required, then a plain, V-neck black knitted jumper is permitted. These are available from supermarkets, Marks and Spencer and other retailers for around £8 - £12. Hoodies, sweatshirts, fashion jumpers etc, are not uniform, and in the summer months no jumpers are required at all.
Please also check your children have their planner and calculator in their school bags, and that their pencil case is re-stocked over half term. Your children are working hard at school, and very often pens run out towards the end of a term!
Independent Study Room (ISR)
Through term 6, we will be looking to move the 5 separate independent study rooms back to a single room as long as Covid restrictions are not increased. The ISR is used for students who have twice broken our behaviour expectations in a class (they have received a ‘3’ – warning, and then a ‘4’). Students work in the ISR supported by our Behaviour Manager. Laptops are provided as well as work on paper/in books, so all students can continue with their learning. This will be for all year groups 7 – 10, and includes an hour after school as well. We have 900 children in school and only 12 spaces in the ISR. The fact that we rarely have anywhere near this number of children out of lessons in the ISR demonstrates the excellent behaviour of students overall in class.
Please ensure your child takes a lateral flow test on Sunday 6th June and logs it on the Report Covid address as usual.
I wish you all a lovely half term and I look forward to seeing your children back in on Monday 7th June.
With best wishes
Julia Hinchliffe, Headteacher
