    Dear Parents and Carers

    Year 9 Options Evening

In September 2024, your son/daughter will be moving into Year 10. It is now time for them to make decisions about which GCSE option courses they would like to take in Years 10 and 11.  To help you and your child make informed choices, we hold an Options Evening.

This year our Options Evening is live in school on Thursday 29 February.   It is also Parents Evening, so you will be able to talk to your child’s teachers and find out how they are doing in their subjects. During the evening there will also be opportunities to hear about the Options Process during three talks in the main hall at 4pm, 5pm or 6pm.

Following the evening, your son/daughter will then need to make their selection using an online selection form (a link to this will be emailed after the evening).  Please be aware that the deadline is Thursday 14 March for initial preferences to be submitted. After that time, students will meet with a member of school staff to discuss their choices, and the suitability of the courses. Please note, all option subjects are subject to pupil take-up being high enough for the course to run, and some have limited spaces meaning prior progress/attitude to learning may be considered when allocating students to subjects.

We understand the decision could be a difficult one and want to assure you that Year 9 students have had numerous assemblies which will explain how to make good subject choices.  We also recommend they talk to their tutor and subject teachers for support and guidance to help them make well-informed choices.

Thank you for your help in making these important decisions with your child. Should you have any questions, please contact either of us.

    Yours sincerely,
