Year 8 Parent Information Evening

I hope you have had a good summer and are looking forward to the year ahead.

We wrote to you in July asking you to save the date for the Year 8 Parent Information Evening this month.

As a reminder, it’s Thursday 5th October from 6.15 to 7.30pm in the school assembly hall. Refreshments will be available from 5.45pm to 6.15pm, half an hour before the event starts, so you can grab a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits, and have a conversation with staff about the year ahead.

We are inviting Year 8 Parents/Carers to attend. There is no requirement to bring along Year 8 children – the session is aimed at adults. We have set up these Information Sessions to help you understand what the Year 8 year looks like, so you are in a strong position to support your child through this important year at Orchard School.

The information includes:

1. The Year 8 Curriculum – what your child is studying this year, key events and any school trips coming up

2. Financial Support – Free School Meals and Hardship Fund

3. Personal, Social and Health Education your child will receive this year

4. The Assessment Calendar – how your child is assessed through the year, when key tests/exams are, homework and laptops

5. Additional Support – how we provide extra support for children with special educational needs, medical needs or other support needs

6. The link between attendance and progress at school

7. Looking after your child’s mental health

8. Safeguarding and support
