    February 2025

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Orchard School Work Experience – 10th-14th February

Our work experience week is taking place next week, and I have been impressed by
the determination and resilience that Year 10 students have shown in the process of
    finding a placement.

If your child has been lucky enough to secure a placement, they will be given a
work experience diary to complete during the week which will help them to reflect
on their experiences and be useful evidence for future job or post-16 interviews.
It can be a nerve-wracking time for young people to go into the world of work for
the first time, so please encourage them to be well prepared. They should contact
their employer in advance to confirm arrangements and if they cannot attend due
to illness, they should inform their employer as soon as possible. As usual, you also
need to inform the Year 10 team so that they can monitor attendance.

Students who have not been able to secure face-to-face placements or have a
part-time placement will still have the opportunity to take part in a careers-focused
week which will look different to their normal timetable. They will be expected to
come into school as normal to register at 8.30am every day and leave at 2.20pm
    except for Wednesday.

They can choose at least two Springpod on-demand placements to complete
during this week from industries of their choice.
    • Monday: Virtual work experience placements on Springpod: It's time to take
control of your future | Springpod
    • Tuesday: Employability and finance workshops with employers from Bristol
    Works
    • Wednesday: Careers workshops with Bristol Works employers
    • Thursday: Virtual work experience placements on Springpod
    • Friday: Employability skills with Barclays Lifeskills: Young People hub
    (barclayslifeskills.com) and curriculum subject work
Students are expected to wear full school uniform.

If you have any questions, please do feel free to contact myself or the Year 10
    Team.

    Yours sincerely,
    Rachel Thorne
