    26 April 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families have had a lovely break. Year 11 have had a great start to their exams and Year 9 have had a brilliant time at Morfa Bay. Attendance this week for all year groups has been excellent. Please continue to support your child in coming to school every day – there’s lots we don’t want them to miss out on!

    Key Dates for Term 5
    • End of term – Friday 24 May at 3.00pm
    • Monday 29 April – GCSE Languages Speaking exams start
    • Thursday 9 May – GCSE Exams start

    Attendance

Attendance has continued to be very pleasing since the start of this term. 11W1and 7W2 have continued to make an excellent start to the term and 11A2, 8W2 and 8D1 have had superb attendance this week. Well done to all! Just a gentle reminder that If your child is absent for any reason, please email absence@orchard.tila.school or phone the school absence line on 0117 377 2021. If there are any issues or concerns getting students into school, please get in touch with the Pastoral Manager or Head of Year as soon as possible. We are here to support.

    Key Stage 3 Updates

It has been great to hear all the stories about the time Year 9 students had at Morfa Bay. On Wednesday, a group of tired but happy looking students and staff returned from an exciting three days taking part in a range of activities including a refreshing dip in the sea. Trips like this are a highlight of the school year and are also invaluable in building social skills and teamworking. Year 7 have their trip to look forward to later in June.

    Key Stage 4 Updates

It has been lovely to see Year 11 students in their Leavers Hoodies this term so far, these are now part of the school uniform alongside appropriate footwear, trousers/skirts, and a white shirt. The hoody online shop has re-opened for this weekend only, so if you missed the initial order window, please do check your emails for the link.
A reminder about the deposit for our Year 11 Prom has been sent out this week; students must earn their place at Prom through hard work and excellent behaviour – and this can also lead to money off incentives!

Year 10 enter their final half-term of content coverage in lessons before end of year mock examinations begin in June. Please do look out for revision topic lists and get some early revision underway.

    Planned lockdown practice

We will be holding a “lockdown” practice on Friday 3 May at 11.15am. Staff and students will be informed so they can prepare for this and make sure they are aware of what they need to do. It is important that we carry out these types of practices to ensure we are prepared and know what to do in the event of an emergency in the same way as we practise evacuating the building in the event of a fire. You will also receive a text from the school on the day as a gentle reminder that this practice will take place.
