    21 June 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families have had a lovely week. A real highlight for us was in celebrating our students at Prize Night this week. It was a special evening showcasing our pupils’ achievements over the course of the year, and an opportunity for staff to recognise them alongside parents and carers. We are proud of everyone who received a prize, or who supported such a lovely evening on Wednesday.

    Key Dates for Term

Tuesday 25 June – GCSE Geography Field Trip
Wednesday 26 June – Year 7 Activity Day
    Thursday 27 June – Y11 Prom
Friday 28 June – Inset Day (no students in school)
Wednesday 3 July – Transition Day for Year 6 students
Friday 19 July – Last day of Term 6 – students will finish at 12:40pm

As we approach the end of the GCSEs, we would like to thank you for your support as attendance to the exams has been excellent. Likewise, attendance to the current mock exams by Year 10 has been especially pleasing so far. End of Year assessments have just begun for Years 7, 8 and 9 and for revision tips and ways to support your child please see our website, but most of all, please encourage them to attend school on time every day. Forms with noteworthy attendance in the past week are 7W2, 10W2 and 10A1.
    Lockdown Practice
Our practice of lockdown procedures was very successful today. Just a reminder that, in case of an actual lockdown, we would notify parents and carers, so please be assured that this was planned.

As you are aware, we are issuing Yondr mobile phone pouches to students from Monday 1 July 2024. Orchard has been a mobile phone-free school for many years, and we know the benefits this brings; improved mental health, fewer pastoral issues with social media, better concentration in lessons and much more. They must place their phones in their pouches at the start of the day, and then tap their pouches on a magnet at the end of the day to open them again, ready for their journey home. We will be practising this with students, and issuing their pouches, on 1 July. We are pleased to let you know that we have a great rewards system in place for students regarding Yondr – all students who follow the new process of placing their phones in their pouches straight away will be entered into a prize draw to win a Mall voucher. We’ll be updating you on Yondr a few times this term, to let you know how students are getting on.

    Key Stage 3 Updates

The weather forecast is looking really promising for our long-awaited Year 7 activity trip to Mojo Active. All Year 7 students are going to be involved in a range of exciting outdoor activities designed to help them with team building skills, resilience and some great fun. We hope to have a whole year group of tired but exhilarated students and it’s a great way to mark the end of a fantastic first year in Orchard School.

    Key Stage 4 Updates

Year 11 have now completely finished examinations, with Catering being the final one. Well done to our 2024 cohort, we are very proud of you and look forward to celebrating with you on Thursday 22 August at Results Day.

Year 10 mock examinations continue, alongside Geography Field Trips, and the year group are impressing us with their attitude to learning. Reports will be issued to parents/carers during the final week of term for students to then use in post-16 applications.
