    19 April 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families have had a lovely break. It was great to see students ready to learn on return to school this week, especially Year 11, for whom exams begin this term. We hope that they have been busy revising, and resting, over the two week holiday.

    Key Dates for Term 5
    • End of term – Friday 24 May at 3.00pm
    • Wednesday 17 April - GCSE Art and Product Design exams start
    • Thursday 17 April - GCSE Graphics exam starts
    • Monday 29 April – GCSE Languages Speaking exams start
    • Thursday 9 May – GCSE Exams start

    Attendance

Attendance has been excellent at the start of this term. 9D1, 11D1, 11W1, 10A1 and 7W2 have made an amazing start to the term. Well done to all!
Celebration assemblies at the end of last term recognised all those students with 100% attendance so far this year; a fantastic achievement. Many more students received a little reward for full attendance in the last week of term. If there are any issues or concerns getting students into school, please get in touch with the Pastoral Manager or Head of Year as soon as possible. We are here to support.

    Key Stage 3 Updates

Year 7, 8 and 9 have another busy term ahead. Next week sees Year 9 take part in their amazing trip to Morfa Bay in South Wales. The weather looks like it’s really going to help students in all of the challenging and exciting outdoor activities they are going to take part in.

We will be recruiting transition leaders from the current Year 7 to help with our incoming students from Year 6 and we will share details of this shortly.

    Key Stage 4 Updates

As detailed above, Year 11 final examinations are now well and truly underway, with coursework and final project deadlines in the near future. From May 8th, daily emails will alert all parents/carers to the examinations of the next day and student timetables will be adapted wherever necessary to reflect upcoming examinations. It has been lovely to see Year 11 students in their Leavers Hoodies this term so far, these are now part of the school uniform alongside appropriate footwear, trousers/skirts and a white shirt.

Year 10 enter their final half-term of content coverage in lessons before end of year mock examinations begin in June. Please do look out for revision topic lists and get some early revision underway.

    Planned lockdown practice

We will be holding a “lockdown” practice on Friday 3rd May at 11.15am. Staff and students will be informed so they can prepare for this and make sure they are aware of what they need to do. It is important that we carry out these types of practices to ensure we are prepared and know what to do in the event of an emergency in the same way as we practise evacuating the building in the event of a fire. You will also receive a text from the school on the day as a gentle reminder that this practice will take place.

    Extra-curricular Timetable for Term 5

We have, as always, a brilliant range of clubs and activities for students in all year groups. Please see the timetable for after school clubs below and please do encourage your child to get involved; it’s good for both their physical and mental wellbeing. All clubs run from 3pm- 4pm unless stated otherwise.

    Community Information

As part of Bristol Refugee Festival, Our City Community Cup is looking for keen football players and teams to join the tournament on Sunday 18th June at Lockleaze Sports Centre. Click here to find out more and register your interest. As a School of Sanctuary, supporting Bristol as a City of Sanctuary, Orchard School is looking forward to supporting further events.

    Mental Health Survey

The Grove team have been working together with Nel Kaur, one of our NHS Educational Mental Health practitioners, to complete an audit on how our school supports students’ mental health and wellbeing.
