    10 May 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families have had a lovely break.

    Key Dates for Term 5
    • End of term – Friday 24 May at 3.00pm

The forms with outstanding attendance this week school are 11D2, 11W1, 7D1 ,7W2 and 9D1. Please remember that if there are any issues or concerns getting students into school, you should speak to their Pastoral Manager or Head of Year as soon as possible. They are here to support.

    Key Stage 3 Updates

Next week is Mental Health Awareness week. We take the mental health and wellbeing of all of our students seriously and appreciate that mental health is one of the most important foundations for a healthy and long life. Students have had assemblies during this week to make them aware of the importance of looking after their mental health and wellbeing. The assemblies have also signposted where students can find help and support within the school.

    Key Stage 4 Updates

Year 11 exams are now up and running, with RE, Drama and Biology all complete. Students are arriving from 7:15am, making the most of the extra revision time – and it is fantastic to see them putting in the extra effort at this final stage.
A reminder to all that uniform does not change during exams, and that a white school shirt and black shoes/trainers are still necessary alongside the school hoodies.
Please do look out for the daily emails with updates on the examinations for the following day.

A second reminder that Year 10 summer mock examinations are in the planning, with Heads of Faculty finalising papers before issuing revision lists. Examinations will take place between 11 June and 2 July, ensuring there are no clashes with school trips or Eid celebrations.
A lot of Year 10 students had a fantastic visit to USW campus last week, learning about different types of university courses on offer.

    Summer Uniform

From Term 6 we move to Summer Uniform, so please do make sure your children are prepared. We have informed children through tutor notices in tutor time, too.
    - Usual white shirt, black trousers or knee-length pleated black skirt, tie, and blazer.
    - Children must have blazers with them, but may choose to take blazers off in classrooms if it is hot.
    - Students wearing skirts can wear white ankle socks rather than tights if they wish.
    - No jumpers are worn in the summer – children have blazers if it is a cool day.
    - No leggings – these are not school uniform at any point of the year.

Very hot weather (we will let you know if we move to this on a particular day/run of days):
    - PE kit (including PE footwear)

A reminder as usual that if you need any support with uniform, please just contact your Pastoral Manager. For a few days, we can provide children with a uniform pass so that they don’t feel worried about not being in correct uniform. However, if the uniform will take longer that this to put right, for example if there are financial issues, then we can use our hardship fund to purchase shoes, blazers, or other uniform. You need to apply through your Pastoral Manager.

    SEND Coffee Morning

We are pleased to inform you that the next SEND coffee morning will take place on Thursday 23 May from 9-10.30am at Orchard School.
