December 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a good week. December is a very busy month, so I have a lot of
information today about the end of term and start of the new term.

End of Term

On the last day of term, Friday 17 December, it is a Christmas Jumper or Own Clothes
Day. Students can wear sensible own clothes – jeans, trainers and hoodies are all
absolutely fine on this day.

We will have our usual Own Clothes Day collection on Friday, and students are requested
to bring in an item for the North Bristol Food Bank, if you are able to. The Food Bank would
particularly like to receive: squash/long life juice, tinned fish, cereal bars, chocolate bars
and instant coffee, but anything you could provide would be welcome. Staff will deliver
it to the Food Bank at the end of the day.

Students will have lessons as normal on the last day of term, before an end of term
assembly, with some wonderful musical performances from students and staff. We have
also been very kindly gifted some presents for our students in receipt of Free School Meals
from the organisation Every Child Needs Christmas. Children will receive these presents
from their tutor, wrapped up, ready to be opened on the 25th (if they can wait that long!)
I want to reassure you that this has been organised through the school, so if your child
arrives home with a present, you know where it has come from.

Children have a staggered end to school on Friday between 12 and 12.30pm.

January Covid Testing & Start of School Dates

Thank you for completing consent forms for your children to be tested for Covid before
returning to school. As you know, the government has asked us to test all children at
school, with parental consent, so that we can keep our school as safe as possible.
If you have not yet completed the online form, you can still do so by clicking on:
https://forms.office.com/r/1gqZ3KHmw4

If you prefer paper copies, these were handed to students in tutor time earlier this week.
Your child can either drop it into Student Reception before the end of term, or they can
bring it with them on the day below. There are spares on Reception until the end of this
term, if your child requires a new one.

As a result of testing, we have had to amend our start days and times for students, as
agreed by government guidelines.

Lateral Flow Tests

Your children will be given 2 packs of lateral flow tests (or more if they want) for over the
holiday period. Please feel free to use these tests for yourself and your family too. We
have lots of these tests available, and if testing helps to save lives, we are happy for you
to use the testing kits before you meet with friends and family. Please encourage your
children (and each other) to wear masks and open the windows frequently. We want
all of you to stay healthy and safe especially with the new Omicron variant spreading
rapidly.

Flu Vaccinations

Please see the letter attached from Sirona which I received yesterday for any children
who missed out on getting the nasal flu vaccination at school.

I look forward to seeing your children back in the New Year on the days above, and I
wish all of you a very happy festive season and a restful break.
