05 November 2021
Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you enjoyed the half term break. The students have returned to school
enthusiastically and we have had a very good week in school.
Happy Diwali and Happy (and safe) Bonfire Night!
Students have had an assembly delivered by Brook professionals which focused on
‘consent’. Some of these assemblies over-ran a little as students were asking so many
questions – an excellent sign that they are engaging in this very important theme. Student
voice is being heard as well through House Council meetings where student
representatives discuss what the school needs to do to improve the experience for
Mentoring and Support
This term we welcome Daniel Edozie, former Bristol Flyers Captain, to the school to carry
out some one-to-one school mentoring and provide motivation and support for students
in our Basketball Academy. Next week we will also be welcoming Freedom, the LGBTQ+
service run by Off The Record to our Friday afternoon LGBTQ+ group.
Thank you for using the new absence email: email@example.com You can send
emails at any time of the evening to be received by staff the following morning, so this
saves an early morning phone call if you know your child is too unwell to attend school
the following day.
We remain very lucky with only a very small number of students/staff absent for Covid.
We continue to ask students to wash hands/hand sanitise regularly through the day.
The ‘touch points’ in the school such as door handles and stair banisters are being
cleaned frequently, and windows remain open to keep a flow of air through the
school. As the weather gets colder, and we continue to keep windows open, students
will need to wear jumpers as well as blazers, and may need to wear a white base layer
too, under their shirts. The heating is on, so students shouldn’t get too cold in class, but
thank you for your understanding that we need to keep fresh air flowing in order to stay
as safe as possible from Covid.
Please continue to ask your children to take their lateral flow tests twice a week, and
more regularly if necessary. Boxes of tests will be distributed again next week. The
dates for Sirona to run Covid vaccinations on our site remain at the end of November.
The full vaccination details for 12-15 year olds are still not with us, but we are expecting
to be able to write to you in the next couple of weeks to pass on further details from
