To coincide with National Careers Week and International Women’s Day, over 20 girls attended the annual ‘Keeping It Equal’ event at the prestigious Celtic Manor Resort.

The event aims to encourage girls aged 11-25 to consider a wider range of careers, job roles, industries and leisure activities by promoting jobs in construction, engineering and military/emergency services.

Orchard students had the opportunity to hear a range of presentations from inspiring women; try their hands at non-stereotypical activities; receive information about careers and issues affecting them; and take part in a role model “speed-dating” style session with adult female role models.

The students had an interesting day hearing from engineers, scientists, academics and politicians as well as having a bit of fun in the photo booth and trying their hands at presenting the weather with the ITV crew. Here’s to keeping it equal next year!
