Give these boys a hand!

Published on 04/05/18

We are so incredibly proud of our handball stars who came runners up in the South of England final.

Our Year 8 and Year 10 boys battled their way through to the finals in Paignton after winning the regional qualifiers at UWE.

Both teams made it to the final round of the competition, but unfortunately lost to some tough opposition.

Year 10 lost 9-8 with the opposition goalkeeper – an U16 England goalkeeper – saving our penalty during the last play of the match.

The Year 8 game went into extra time after drawing 3-3 – it was an incredibly tense finish, with the opposition winning 5-4.

The boys performed amazingly well in a competition of the highest standard.

Mr Pitt, OSB handball coach, said: “It was a brilliant, but very long day and I am so pleased with the students’ approach to defeat.

“They worked hard, remained competitive and respectful and left with their heads held high.

“On any other day we could of won both matches but sport at this standard has just fine margins.”

A massive thank you to Mr Grafton for his support on the day - and live tweeting the matches!

Handball is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each pass a ball using their hands with the aim on throwing it in the opposition's net.
