Sports Studies' term 2 round-up
Published on 16/12/16
Orchard School Bristol's Sports Studies department gives us a round-up of everything they have been doing throughout term 2!
Fitness plays a big part not only in sport but in maintaining a healthy active lifestyle. All students at Key Stage 3 take part in fitness activities and testing. We don’t let a little frost stand in our way.
We were lucky enough to have ex-Olympic athlete Vernon Samuels and retired pro-rugby player Thinus Delport visit us this term to put us in the right frame of mind (read more, here)! Year 10s are now in stiff competition to make their leaders the very best. They have already run their first interhouse competition in sportshall athletics, won by Ricart.
The Modern Pentathlon in fencing and laser shooting against Abbeywood School was great fun for all involved. Team Ophelia were the overall competition winners - it is the second time that captain Mallory Williams and Bethany Richards have won in the event, with the help of newcomer Ruby Green. Boy Team #1 - made up of Andre Freckleton (Year 11), Ali Hussain (Year 9) and Oliver Green (Year 7) - came a very close 4th after a missed laser shot. In January we switch focus from laser shooting to fencing which is our strength.
Sports Hall Athletics
We were lucky enough to host the senior competition against local schools St Bede's, Cotham and Redland Green School. For the first time ever, the Year 9 boys and girls, and Year 10 boys have all made the Bristol finals taking place in January at St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School.
Year 7 and 8 girls have had a series of festivals in netball and football with more to come in 2017.
Training has begun and our girls' Storm club has over 20 training regularly. U14 Boys are undefeated!
