Students from Orchard School Bristol showed "immeasurable" confidence yesterday, debating about various current issues.

It was part of the Debate Mate Cup, which saw a number of schools from across Bristol gather at Will's Memorial to argue their points of view.

The motions debated included, "This house would ban the military from advertising", "This house would ban random bag searches in school" and "This house would require the media to devote equal air time to men's and women's sports".

OSB won several of the debates, but the competition was won by Bradley Stoke who will be representing Bristol in the Nationals.

The highlight of the day was OSB student Nada Marshal being recognised as the most improved female speaker across Bristol.

Mrs Nelson said that the confidence the students have gained is "immeasurable".
