Orchard School's handball teams are celebrating after successes in the Wesport Winter Games last week.

The Year 9/10 team claimed the champions title in their category, after a fantastic 5-1 win in the final. They will now be representing the school in the South West finals in Devon this May.

Coach, Mr Pitt, said that the tournament was of a "high standard", and although the boys started off nervous, they finished the competition with increased confidence. He added that it was their "fantastic defensive performance", which got them through to the final.

The squad was made up of seven Year 9s and four Year 10s, which included Rendjis Kalinis, Max Grant, Jake Baker, Paul Heninge, Andre Freckleton, Anthony Smith, Shramake Warabi, Nathan Herbert, Steen Maxwell, Kacper Lopata and Lewis Chant.

Andre Freckleton was awarded MVP of the tournament.

The Year 7/8 team got through to the finals, after winning four of their games, but unfortunately lost 3-2 to Abbeywood.

Mr Pitt said: "This was a very tight game between two good teams but unfortunately the boys ended up losing 2-3 with the opposition goalkeeper making some fantastic saves!

"Excellent performance from all and they did the school proud."

The Year 7/8 squad was made up of Miguel Freckleton, Ali Hussain, Ahmed Farah, Brandon Thornhill, Joel Varghese, Junior Thoukam, Kieron Chant and Blue Biswell.

MVP of the tournament went to Miguel Frecklton.
