Uncovering stories of Southmead
Students have been working alongside film production company Calling the Shots to document the history of Southmead.
As part of the Meadows to Meadows project, our students have been learning skills in filming, sound checking and interviewing to discover the stories of Southmead's older residents - some of whom have been around since the 1930s when the area was first built.
We have so far filmed at Fonthill Primary School, Southmead Youth Centre and a local resident's home.
The students have been enthralled by some of the stories they've heard - residents have recalled being in the school playground when World War II broke out, witnessing German bombers fly overhead, and even lifting weights with Darth Vader star David Prowse.
A series of documentaries will be made from the interviews, and will be shown to the public next year.
We look forward to seeing the final product!
