Enrichment

What’s it all about?

At Orchard School we believe that there is more to being at secondary school than just lessons. We have expanded what we call our Enrichment programme which gives all students the chance to take part in a huge choice of activities that will teach you new skills as well as being fun. All students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be given the chance to choose from our selection of activities. The Enrichment programme takes place on Wednesday afternoons. In fact, we recently changed our school timetable to make space for this additional experience.

Students can choose from five ‘strands’ – Creative, Sport, Advanced Skills, Academic Club and Awards (Year 9 only.) Each pupil can change to a different strand every two terms. In addition to the opportunities below, we are also offering AS Level French and GCSE Classical Studies.

Creative includes everything from learning how to maintain your bike, taking part in a Shakespeare performance to Upcycling, the latest trend! Sport continues to develop pupil’s skills in a wide variety of sports and allows school to take part in competitive fixtures on a more regular basis.

The Advanced Skills strand allows pupils to develop their skills in areas such as philosophy, humanities (for example – cartography and history case studies) and music technology using the state of the art equipment in the music department.

Academic Club allows pupils to watch foreign films, develop coding skills in ICT, learn a bit of Latin and a variety of other skills. Catch-Up serves Year 10’s and 11’s and helps them to maintain progress towards their academic targets.

Pupils can also take place in nationally recognised awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze and Silver Awards, the Arts award and the Science based Crest award. New options are always been added so that we can tailor our offer to best suit the needs of the pupils.
